Peter Kamols is a respected
and highly experienced architect who has practiced widely
throughout Brisbane and the Redlands.
Peter holds a Bachelor of
Architecture with First Class Honours from
the University of Queensland where he was also awarded the
AE Brooks travelling scholarship.
He offers international experience
having worked in London for Arup and Associates.
Upon his return to Brisbane, he
founded Shade Structures Pacific, a
specialist Tension Membrane Structures Company. Peter's role
was as Head of Design concentrating on the
USA, Asia and Middle East markets.
Peter lived for periods in the USA
in Kansas City, Missouri and Mission
Viejo, Orange County, California. He sold his share in Shade
Structures Pacific to Taiyo Corporation
of Japan and now has interests in property
development and folding demountable buildings for remote
locations and disaster relief.
Peter particularly wants to see the
Redlands avoid the mistakes of rapid growth
that he lived with in Southern California, which he sees
as a case of a paradise largely spoiled.
He is married to Mary Anne and has
three children, Rachael, Nicholas and Luke.
Arts & Culture
Miguel Diaz brings over 20 years' sales management experience , working with the most prominent names in professional services, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Freehills and Minter Ellison Lawyers.
He is a partner at Aspire MFC, a business development consultancy firm, where Miguel commits a wealth of knowledge and practical exper ience to deliver strategies which enable aspiring firms to join the top tier.
Miguel is also on the board of the RSPCA in Queensland where he uses his business skills to advance the Society's aims.
Prior to his corporate career, Miguel graduated from the NSW Cons ervatorium of Music and spent ten years as a professional performer including seven years with Opera Australia. He was also in the cast of The Phantom of the Opera.
Miguel holds a Diploma of Music (Operatic Art & Music Theatre) from the NSW Conservatorium of Music. In 1991, he studied at the Academia Chigiana in Siena (Italy) with Carlo Bergonzii and has also studied style and interpretation with Victor Morris at Covent Garden.
Miguel is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German.
Business & Commerce
Malcolm Lack is the managing
director of the Alchemy Cordial Company, one of Redland's
most successful businesses employing 12 peope.
Alchemy manufactures and markets its
own range of innovative, natural gourmet cordials and
syrups. Established in 1995 with an old family recipe
for "chilli cordial", the company today
distributes its products in stores and cafes throughout
Australia and overseas in countries including France, the
UK, USA, Indonesia, Dubai, Singapore, New Zealand and Hong
Kong.
Malcolm has lived in the Redlands
for more than 39 years and actively participates at board
level in a number of organisations including the Australian
Beerage Council. He offers substantial experience of the
manufacturing industry with his credentials supported by
six Sigma Black Belts (in continual
improvement).
An avid cricketer and supporter, he
is married to Nicole with a son (now nearly two),
Employment
Scott Connolly is
presently the Executive Officer for the Transport Workers'
Union of Australia (TWU). He is also responsible for
co-ordinating and managing the Union's interests in the
National Aviation industry.
Formerly based in Canberra, Scott has held a range of roles within the industrial relations
sector. This includes roles as Industrial
Relations Advisor at the Registered Clubs Association of NSW
and as Media and Government Relations Officer at the
NSW TWU. In Canberra, he was also elected to the position of
TWU Secretary.
Throughout his career, Scott has
gained experience and expertise in dealing with all levels
of business, government, the media, relevant areas of the
law, and associated interest groups.
He holds a BA (Hons) from the
University of Sydney and has partially completed both a
Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Labor Lw.
A keen runner, Scott has only
recently moved to the Redlands from Canberra and is keen to
make a contribution to the community where he hopes to raise
his young family.
Garry Cooper is Queensland
Manager for Cathay Industries, a
multinational Chinese company manufacturing high-quality
products in the areas of general chemicals,
phosphonates and pigmentss.
Born in Marrickville, Sydney, Garry
completed Higher School Certificate in
1981 and went on to complete a Certificate of Retail
Management. He worked for Grace Bros
Department Stores in various management roles
before departing for the chemical company, Bayer where he
served in a variety of roles for 17 years.
The coastal Brisbane suburb of
Cleveland was Garry's first port of call
after leaving Sydney some 13 years ago where he fell in love
with life in the Redlands. After a
brief departure to the Logan shire he moved
back to the Redlands and now lives in Southern Redland Bay.
Garry's keen interest in the
Redlands lead to his appointment in 2007 to the
Redland Bay South Investigation Area Community Reference
Group. On this committee he has
demonstrated a commitment to finding a balance between
business, development, the environment and the
individual.
Garry has served on the Redlands
Institute's Steering Committee since its inception in early
2008. His interests include responsible development
and youth affairs.
David Bray is the Technical
Services Manager at Darwalla Milling
Company, one of the largest employers in Redland
Shire. Darwalla is a family-owned poultry integrator
that has been operating since 1993. The integrated
business includes breeder rearing, breeder production,
hatchery, feed mill, broiler grow-out and associated
activiteis such as transport.
Darwalla Milling produces
approximately 20 million chickens per year for the purpose
of poultry meat production.
In his role, David oversees the
feedmill, the planning and construction of infrastructure
including hatchery, breeder and broiler farms, and the
management of local and state government regulations
including environmental licencing.
His responsibilities also include
the planning and development of Darwalla's renewal energy
electrical generator, a revoutionary new technology
utilising poultry manure to produce around 7.5 Megawtts of
electricity per hour. Some 10% of this 'green
electricity' will be utilised in an adjoining poultry
proessing plant with the balane injected into the local
network.
The project will result in a
reduction of around 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide
emissions each year.
David holds a Certificate in Animal Production,
specialising in artificial breeding and stud cattle.
Environment
Simon Balthais currently manages
one of Moreton Bay's largest
community based scientific monitoring pr
ograms, Seagrass Watch but also coordinates many public education programs.
Amongst Simon's senior executive
positions on various state based en
vironmental organizations, he is the secretary for the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland Bayside Branch, one of Redlands most respected
and pro-active environmental groups.
Simon has broad experience in community campaigning, media, Environmental
Law and Town Planning matters, particularly within the Redlands.
Simon has served in the Aust
ralian Army, Queensland Police Force and has 15 years in IT and currently works as an Operations Manager.
He offers university qualifications in Information and Technology and is in the final year of his Marine Science studies through the University of Queensland. He has traveled widely in Australia and overseas. Calling Redlands home, he is one of Shire's strongest advocates for protecting its many and varied natural assets and values.

Adrian Caneris is Managing
Director of BAAM Pty Ltd and a
Principal Wildlife Expert.
His areas of expertise are in
vertebrate fauna assessment and identification, assessment of terrestrial habitats, ecological monitoring, wildlife management, biodiversity planning, feral species management and community liaison and facilitation.
Adrian is a regularly engaged ecological expert for the Planning and Environment Court and Land Court in Queensland.
He has been involved in research, management, consulting, tertiary teaching
and community based studies of terrestrial ecology, particularly vertebrate fauna, throughout South-
East Queensland for more than 20 years.
Adrian has also provided expert assessments and advice to the Redland City Council on all aspects an
d issues relating to wildlife management.
Since 2002, Adrian has undertaken specialist consultancy work for local and state governments and private organisations, primarily associated with fauna investigations, recommendations for fauna management and species recovery planning.
He has been appointed to a number of advisory committees, council's and trusts and is currently providing an expert peer review for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Biodiversity strategy. Adrian was also one of three community representatives on the previous Redl
and Shire Councils Greenspace Advisory Committee Adrian including the Ipswich City Council Environmental Advisory Committee (1993-

Bob Bishop is the
managing director of TTGroup, a telecommunications company
based in Coorparoo and currently employing 60 staff.
It is the largest privately owned telecommunications
company in Queensland specialising in design, sales,
installation and service of data, voice, video, internet and
mobility business communications solutions.
Bob has been in the
telecommunications industry for over 42 years having started
as a PMG Technician in 1967. In that time he has held
several roles: 10 years with PMG/Telecom first as a
techician, then as a Senior telecommunications consultant, 9
years as State Manager for STC (now Alcatel), 7 years as
State Manager for Ericsson Australia, and 17 years as
owner/dealer principal/CEO of TTGroup Communications
incorporating two Ericcson business phone centre franchises,
the Ericsson corporate networks franchise, PacLink QLD/NT,
Envisage Media, SmartSpeak Solutions and the Sony Virtual
Travel distributorship in Brisbane.
Formerly an Army captain, Bob holds
a degree in Marketing from QUT and has completed
communications study tours of Austria, Vietnam, USA,
Singapore, Israel and New Zealad. He has been
Ericsson/Damovo National Distributor of the Year for five
years and Telstra Dealer of the Year for 6 tears. His
company, Virtual Travel, has also been awarded the national
distribution rights for Sony video conferencing.
Bob is a committed community citizen
with representations on a number of boards and committees.
As the current President of the Australia-Israel
Chamber of Commerce (QLD), he joined the Trade Mission to
Israel led by the Hon Alan Stockdale. He is also a past
Chairman of the Queensland Government's Bayside Health
Community Council responsible for the Redlands Hospital,
Wynnum Hospital, Moreton Bay Nursing Care Unit and Bay
Islands. As well he's a Divisional Chair and judge of
the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Management
Excellence Awards Board, and is a Director of the Board of
AIM Queensland and NT. Additionally, he participates
on the Lord Mayor of Brisbane's Multicultural Round Table.
Bob is married to Dr Lyn Bishop, a
former Australian Entrepreneur of hte Year who established
Redland's leading school, Sheldon College. Bob is a
founding Board Director of Sheldon College and the Sheldon
College Foundation. The couple have three adult
children, Debbie, Michael and Shelley.

Communication & Technology
Brett
Hooker is the managing director of Roarz
Computing which is also a major sponsor of Redlands
Institute. He is recognised as one of
Australia’s leading ICT professionals with more than
17 years experience in the national and international
sectors, applying his business applications and software
technology specialties to private and public firms.
Brett is an innovative, passionate
ICT ambassador. He has made varied and profound
contributions to the IT industry from outstanding works
within Oracle Corporation to countless contributions to up-
and-coming IT professionals through his efforts with
universities. Brett Hooker's passion and vigour to
assist businesses increase customer satisfaction and improve
efficiency is tireless and commendable.
In 2007, Brett was awarded the
prestigiouse National Pearcey Award for Young Achievers.
This prestigious ICT industry honour is awarded to one
of the State Winners from the previous year who has
demonstrated innovative and pioneering achievement and
contribution to research and development within the ICT
industry early in their career.
In 2000, Brett received an
Outstanding Alumnus Award from the QUT’s IT Faculty in
recognition of exceptional professional achievements and
contributions to the community. Brett, an active
alumnus of QUT, is also currently a QUT IT Faculty Academic
Board member and the QUT Alumni Board
President.
In 2005, Brett was featured in the
“Queensland: A great state of mind” book,
launched by State Premier Peter Beattie during Queensland
Week.
Brett has also presented numerous
worldwide conferences relating to a range of subjects such
as E-business and software development, enhancing a

industry brings to the marketplace as a whole.

Brian Hurst is Managing
Editor of the Bayside Bulletin and The Redland Times, the
two major contributors of local news and
information to the residents of the
Redlands. The publications boast readersips of 93.4% and 80%
respectively according to Roy Morgan
Research.
Brian spent the first 10 years of
his working life as junior public
servant, before studying journalism, government
and economics, part-time as a mature aged student. His first
job as a journalist was for a
national magazine Truckin' Life.
He has been at the Redland based
newspapers for 25 years.
Brian moved to the Redlands in 1984
and has been experienced the rapid growth of the Redlands
since then.
He has been active in a number of
community reference groups and represented
the general community in Councils landmark Vision 2005
project.
Planning & Development
Ian Wilson is the founding
director of the ULB Institute which was established with a
mission to promote community and personal sustainability.
In ikne with this mission, the organisation aims to
develop systems and related products and services.
With a Masters degree in Commerce
and post-graduate qualifications in Urban Studies, Ian has
worked for a range of multi-national organisations across a
range of industries. He has specialised in product
management in the food and pharmaceuticals industries,
working on brands such as Eta, Praise, Disprin and Dettol.
Ian also offers a background in
investment banking having worked in the Treasury of Bankers'
Trust. He has also operated his own multi-disciplinary
financial servies practice offering expertise in financial
planning, accounting, legal issues and mortgage
partnerships.
Southern Moreton
Bay Islands
Lee Shipley is the Editor of
the influential online publicaition 'The Bay Journal'.
He is also a member of several Southern Moreton Bay
Island organisations including Redland Tourism. Lee is
also one of the 10 appointees to the Redland City Council's
Advisory Committee for the islands.
Lee arrived in the Redlands in 2002
after sailing his yacht from Sydney following his
retirement. Formely the IT Strategist for the
Australian Stock Exchange, Lee's career includes a string of
appointments in the technology sector spanning more than 15
years. He has wide experience in the generation of
corporate cultures geared to the effective use of computing.
His eclectic background also
includes stints as a journalist, a soldier, and 10 years as
a practitioner and lectuerer in theatre. Consequently,
he has a great passion for the arts.
Lee says he loves the Redlands
because it so closely resembles Woy Woy and the Central
Coast of NSW where he grew up. He hopes that the
mistakes that were made there will not be repeated
here.
Tourism &
Hospitality
Gerald Brock owns the
historic Grand View Hotel located in Cleveland. Built in
1851, it's Queensland's oldest licensed hotel.
Gerald moved into the hospitality
sector after more than 25 years in the oil and steel
industries in Australia and overseas.
He bought the Grand View in 1992
and, together with his wife Karen and son Ben, converted the
pub into a family-friendly venue catering for functions,
book launches with local and international authors, art
exhibitions and quality al fresco dining. The venue has
since catered for in-bound tourists with koala and heritage
tours.
With a degree in Economics, Gerald's
considerable expertise in hospitality and tourism is
supported by a wide range of community involvements. He has
been a member of Rotary for more than a decade.
He was also the first Chairman of
the Redlands Economic Development Board, a position he held
for four years in the 1990s. He is also a former Board
member of the local tourism body and member of both the
Greater Brisbane Tourism organization and Brisbane Tourism.
Youth
Affairs
Paul Stanley is the founder
of the Matthew Stanley Foundation, established in 2006 to
educate young people and convey the senselessness of youth
violence. The Foundations works closely with
Queensland Police and the general community to educate young
people about how to prevent youth violence.
The Foundation aims to alert
schools, church and community groups, and individuals to hte
risks young people face at parties and in the general
community.
Amongst its many initiatives, the
Foundation has been involved in the distribution of
Queensland Police Party Safe brochures in Redlands and
speaking engagements wherere youth are directly targeted.
Paul is also a member of the State
Government's Youth Violence Taskforce which is dedicated to
ientifying what leads a person to behave violently,
identifying trends, and developing strategies to reduce the
incidence of brutalitly,
Phil Weightman was formerly the Member for
Cleveland, a position he held from September 2006 until
March 2009. In this role, Phil worked hard not
only to voice community issues, but to ensure they were
acted upon.
Prior to his election, Phil served
as a Queensland Police Officer beginning in 1979, where he
worked in Cleveland as a Senior Sergeant and
District Duty Officer.
Phil and his wife Kerry have called
the Redlands home for 25 years. They have two children, Matt
and Madeline.
Phil is actively involved in his
local community and currently serves as the patron of a
number of community organisations including the Matthew
Stanley Foundation, Bayside Community Radio Association Inc,
Phoenix Lifestyle Support, Redlands Junior Rugby League
Club, Stradbroke Island Sharks Rugby League Club and the
Redlands Youth Association.
Phil is a member of the Moreton TAFE
Advisory Council and is actively involved in the
Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club on North Stradbroke
Island as a patrolling member and previously as a member of
the Club's management committee.
