The
Redlands Insitute is proud to announce it major project for 2009-10,
a proposal that will set an exciting precedent for innovative
personal transport infrastructure into the future.
Launched
to the media on Tuesday, February 23 this year, the Institute has
proposed a new Greenway for the Redlands that provides an alternative
to highways, freeways and bus ways that leach Government coffers and
create long-term environmental impacts.
Instead
the Redlands Greenway will provide a safe, fauna-friendly transit
alternative that will encourage the use of low speed low-emission
transport modes such as bicycles, Segways, electric scooters and
mopeds.
The
route will provide a rapid, pedestrian-friendly link between the
communities of Capalaba
and Birkdale and Cleveland and Moreton Bay.
In
this way, it will be a destination in itself, comprising points of
genuine interest, linking our villages, improving both
pedestrianisation and cyclist safety, and building healthier
communities by encouraging more people to leave their cars behind to
walk or cycle to destinations.
When
completed, the proposed Redlands Greenway will comprise 19 kms of
sealed pathways directed along an existing route that already has the appropriate zoning. Click
