Redlands Institute PresidentAdrian Caneris is Managing Director of BAAM Pty Ltd and a  Principal Wildlife Expert.

His areas of expertise are in  vertebrate fauna assessment and identification, assessment of terrestrial habitats, ecological monitoring, wildlife management, biodiversity planning, feral species management and community liaison and facilitation.

Adrian is a regularly engaged ecological expert for the Planning and Environment Court and Land Court in Queensland.

He has been involved in research, management, consulting, tertiary teaching  and community based studies of terrestrial ecology, particularly vertebrate fauna, throughout South- East Queensland for more than 20 years.

Adrian has also provided expert assessments and advice to the Redland City Council on all aspects an d issues relating to wildlife management.

Since 2002, Adrian has undertaken specialist consultancy work for local and state governments and private organisations, primarily associated with fauna investigations, recommendations for fauna management and species recovery planning.

He has been appointed to a number of advisory committees, council's and trusts and is currently providing an expert peer review for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council  Biodiversity strategy.  Adrian was also one of three community representatives on the previous Redl and Shire Councils Greenspace Advisory Committee Adrian including the Ipswich City Council Environmental Advisory Committee (1993- 96), the National Heritage Trust  (1997- 99), the QPWS Macropod Management Advisory Committee (1997- 2000), the Wildlife Preservation Society  (Past President and Vice- President), the Koala Coast Conservation  Council Redland Shire Council Representative (1999- 2002), the South East Queensland Conservation Strategy Committee (1999- 2003), the Recreational & Commercial  Animal Management Committee (1999- 2002), the Wildlife Land Trust Ltd Qld. (2000- ongoing, Director), and the Qld Pest Animal and Plague Advisory Commit tee (2001-2003).

 

Redlands Institute Vice-President, Gunther de Graeve is health manager of leading Brisbane architectural firm, Woods Bagot. He is currently involved in design work for the new $750m Queensland Children's Hospital in Woolloongabba.

Born in Belgium where he received a degree in Architecture (specialising in Structural Design) from the Advanced Institute for Architecture in Ghent, Gunther worked on numerous health, education and aged care facilities including an 850-bed hospital in Limburg, Belgium. Gunther moved to Australia in 1995.

He offers high level expertise in architectural design, development and management which has been honed over several years servicing a number of leading local and international practices based both here and overseas.

This includes a two-year tenure in Dubai where, from 2004-2006 he established the Middle Eastern headquarters for the Taiyo Membrane Corporation. As General Manager, Gunther grew the organisation to 25 staff and delivered numerous major projects including the city's new 'S3' Cricket Stadium in 'Sports City', a 25,000 seat venue which is expandable to 30,000, and which has been touted as one of the most advanced of its kind in the world. In addition, his designs for Saida Stadium in Lebanon and Split Airport in Croatia have received International Awards for Excellence in Design.

Gunther currently serves as Vice-president for the Wellington Point Lions. He represents the Architecture and Urban Design sector at Redlands Institute.

He is married to Eileen and has two children.currently plays for Clairvaux-McKillop.  She is currently completing her first novel, a project she rues every starting!

Treasurer, Garry Hargrave is a Principal of Redlands' leading property development group, Fox & Bell Group. Collectively they have been involved in many of Redland's high profile developments. Within the group these include Victoria Point Lakeside Shopping Centre, Redland Bay Village Shopping Centre, Orchard Beach Residential Estate, Parklands Residential Estate, Grosvenor Park Residential Estate and Redlands Business Park.

Formerly, Garry was a Principal of Jensen Bowers Group, a multi displinary property consultance offering town planning, surveying, civil engineering and project management services throughout Queensland. During this period Garry worked on some of the largest projects in South East Queensland such as North Lakes, Sippy Downs new town and Noosa Town Centre.

With a Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying), Garry is a member of the Spatial Sciences Institute and the Urban Land Institute. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Surveyors Australia and a Past President of the Institution of Surveyors (QLD Division).

Garry lives in Redland Bay and is married to leading local artist, Lyndal and has three children, Sharni, Lucy and Ellie.

 

Committee Member, Garry Cooper is Queensland Manager for Cathay Industries, a multinational Chinese company manufacturing high-quality products in the areas of general chemicals, phosphonates and pigmentss. 

Born in Marrickville, Sydney, Garry completed Higher School Certificate in 1981 and went on to complete a Certificate of Retail Management. He worked for Grace Bros Department Stores in various management roles before departing for the chemical company, Bayer where he served in a variety of roles for 17 years.  

The coastal Brisbane suburb of Cleveland was Garry's first port of call after leaving Sydney some 13 years ago where he fell in love with life in the Redlands. After a brief departure to the Logan shire he moved back to the Redlands and now lives in Southern Redland Bay.

Garry's keen interest in the Redlands lead to his appointment in 2007 to the Redland Bay South Investigation Area Community Reference Group. On this committee he has demonstrated a commitment to finding a balance between business, development, the environment and the individual.

Garry has served on the Redlands Institute's Steering Committee since its inception in early 2008.  His interests include responsible development and youth affairs.

Ian Neil is a solicitor, and the Litigation Partner, of MDRN Solicitors in Cleveland and Capalaba. He is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

MDRN Solicitors has been providing legal services in the Redlands and wider South East Queensland region for more than 30 years with a focus on Commercial and Property Development, Litigation (disputes) and Property Conveyancing. Ian oversees the litigation teamof MDRN Solicitors who have an enviable record of success in Court and Tribunal disputes.

Ian specialises in Planning and Environment Court disputes, acting for developers and also for submitters (objectors) opposed to some developments.  

 With a keen involvement in the community, Ian is a former President, Vice President and Executive Member  of the local Chamber of Commerce , and now Life Member .   He has also served on a large number of Council committees and forums including Redlands Economic Development Forum, Sydney Olympic Games Torch  Relay committee, Redlands Australian of the Year selection committee, chaired the Redlands Education Forum and  served as a member of the  Council's development assessment procedure advisory group.  He recently retired after 15 years of service as Honorary Solicitor of the Queensland Muscular Dystrophy Association.

 Since 2003 , Ian has served as a  Board member of  the local leading schooling institution Sheldon College  and is a founding Director of the charitable institution The Redland Foundation . He is also  President of the Carmel College P&F committee. Ian ialso represents the Legal sector at the Redlands Institute , having been involved with the Redlands Institute since its inception in 2007
